"Mylakhrion the Immortal"
by Brian Lumley
originally published Fantasy Tales No. 1, 1977
Teh Atht, a wizard, conjures the ghost of his ancestor, Mylakhrion, to wrest the secret of immortality from him. Mylakhrion eventually admits to having contacted Cthulhu in his quest for immortality. Cthulhu offered the secret in exchange for worship and service. It turns out that the deal was that Mylakhrion would take over the body of a descendant who summoned his ghost. Teh Atht flees.
An amusing vignette in Lumley's series of "Primal Lands" Clark Aston Smith-ian pastiches.
